Ink-black Reflection
부산대학교 의류학과 브랜드 HadaBusan의 2025년 패션쇼를 위해 작곡된 이 곡은 2년 전 Pathway 시리즈의 위촉으로 작곡되어 <죽음과 헌정> 콘서트에서 초연된 <첼로 소나타 1번: 경야>를 새로운 맥락 속에서 다시 작업한 곡이다.
처음 패션쇼의 형식에 맞춰 길이와 편성을 조정하는 것으로 계획되었으나, 작업 과정에서 HadaBusan의 강렬한 작업들과 만나며 예상치 못한 새로운 인식을 얻어, 단순한 편곡을 넘어서 삶과 존재에 대한 다른 초점으로 새롭게 만들어졌다.
제임스 조이스의 <경야>, 김승연의 <첼로 소나타>, HadaBusan과 젊은 디자이너들의 디자인, 그리고 새로운 관점으로 다시 만들어진 <수묵단상>까지, 어쩌면 작품 자체보다도, 이 작품이 거쳐 온 과정 속에는 담고있는 개인의 생각, 생각이 결과로 탄생하는 과정, 사람과 사람 사이의 영향, 그리고 만들어졌던 것이 다시 재생되는 과정이, 우리 삶의 모습을 보여주는 것 같아, 보다 짧은 길이의 한 작품으로 구성하여 이번 무대에 올리기로 결정하였다.

Composed for the 2025 fashion show of HadaBusan, the brand of the Department of Clothing & Textiles at Pusan National University, this work reimagines Cello Sonata No. 1: Vigil—originally commissioned as part of the Pathwayseries and premiered at the concert Dedication and Death two years earlier.
Initially, the project began simply as an adaptation of the sonata, with its length and instrumentation adjusted to fit the format of a fashion show. However, during the creative process, encounters with HadaBusan’s striking designs and strong artistic vision led to an unexpected transformation. The piece evolved beyond a mere rearrangement, becoming a new work shaped by a different focus—on life, being, and renewal.
From James Joyce’s Vigil, to Seungyon Kim’s Cello Sonata, to the designs of HadaBusan and its young creators, and finally to Ink Meditation (Sumuk Dansang)—the reimagined version presented here—the work itself traces a path through ideas, influences, and rebirths. More than the final piece alone, what this process reveals is the reflection of life itself: the birth of thought into form, the resonance between individuals, and the continuous cycle of creation and re-creation.
This condensed version embodies that journey and is presented on this stage as a single, unified work.
