녹턴 제 1번 <시간의 숲>
마음의 움직임을 따라 달라지는 시간의 흐름, 시간의 색채.
야심한 시간, 때로 우리는 기억의 거리를 헤메였다.
이제 현대인은 더 이상 가지기 어려운, 헤메일 수 있는 시간.
이 곡은, 시간 속을 헤메이며, 순간순간에 현행적으로 생겨나며 또한 발하는 즉시 사그러드는 순간의 감정과 대화하고자 하는 의도의, 새로운 문법으로 쓰여졌다.
이 곡은 불완전한 존재의 충만한 정서를 일깨우는 쇼팽의 목소리에 대한 헌정이며, 연약한 우리 인간 존재가 거대한 시간 흐름 속에서도 그 찬란한 빛을 낼 수 있다는, ‘경이’에 대한 헌사이다.
The Flow and Color of Time, Following the Movements of the Heart.
In the stillness of night, we sometimes wander through the distances of memory —a kind of wandering that modern people can no longer easily afford,a time in which to lose oneself.
This piece is written in a new syntax — an attempt to converse with emotions that arise and fade moment by moment as one drifts through the currents of time,with feelings that exist only in the instant of their birth and disappear the moment they are uttered.
It is both a homage to the voice of Chopin, who awakened the fullness of emotion within our fragile, imperfect existence, and a tribute to the wonder that even our vulnerable humanity can shine with such brilliance within the vast flow of time.
쇼팽에 대해 말하자면 먼저 그의 서정성을 말하게 되고, 좀 더 알게된 이들은 쇼팽의 화성에도 관심을 갖게된다. 쇼팽의 자유로운 루바토의 리듬은, 고전의 정직하고 투명한 리듬과도 달랐고, 바로크의 계량적 시간에 즉흥성이 가미된 리듬과도 달랐다. 쇼팽의 선율이 가는 시간은 내적인 서정이 흐르는 시간이다. 그것은 일관되지도 않으며, 균형잡히고 조화되어 있지도 않다. 그러나 거기에는, 우리가 영원불변의 시간을 살고있지 않다는, 약동하는 호흡의 정서를 바라보는 시각이 스며있다. 쇼팽의 이러한 시선은, 우리가 슬픔과 기쁨이 교차하는 찬연한 감성의 거리에 살고 있다는 것을 일깨워준다.
쇼팽에 대한 오마주로서 쇼팽의 곡에 나타난 소재/음형의 인용이 사용되었지만, 근본적으로는 쇼팽의 선율성, 서정성의 이면에 있는 리듬적 역동에 초점을 맞춘 곡이다. 여러 다른 규모에서 다른 속도의 부분 사이에서의 역동이 일어나도록 구성하였다. 성부 내부의 리듬적 불안정과 순차적 부조화를 통해 역동-변화하는 시간의 실현은, 쇼팽이 스트라빈스키보다 한 시대 앞서 구현했다고 할 수 있을 것이다.
To speak of Chopin is first to speak of lyricism. Those who know him more deeply are drawn to his harmony as well. Chopin’s free rubato was unlike the honest transparency of Classical rhythm, and unlike the quantified yet improvisatory rhythm of the Baroque. The time that flows through Chopin’s melody is an inner, lyrical time —neither consistent, nor balanced, nor symmetrical.And yet, within it lies a profound awareness that we do not live in immutable, eternal time, but within the pulsing rhythm of living breath. Chopin’s gaze reminds us that we dwell in the luminous distance where joy and sorrow intertwine.
As an homage to Chopin, this work employs quotations and gestures from his music, yet its true focus lies on the rhythmic dynamism beneath his melodic lyricism. The composition is structured to create vitality among contrasting temporal scales and speeds. Through rhythmic instability and sequential dissonance within the texture, the piece seeks to realize a vision of time in motion — a concept Chopin had already embodied, perhaps a generation before Stravinsky.
